The center of the swirl: Durham NC Newborn Photographer
When I photograph a newborn with siblings, I like to imagine that the new baby is the center of a spiral with everything and everybody else in the family swirling outward from that center. I see that outward swirl so clearly in these joyful, barely-posed images of a family I have photographed several times before. I just love these kids, and they deep sense of play that their parents foster in them.
Having seen them in several different formations, I see in these photos the way that they have reformed themselves around their newest member while also remaining fully themselves. I can also see how the older siblings’ bond is strengthened by the addition of the new baby. They are a unit now. It’s all just so good, and I hope that when they look back on these pictures in 10 years, 20 years, 30 years, they can see these things too.
May all children have this space for becoming, shifting, and reforming. May they look back on moments of change in their lives as moments of growth and triumph. Maybe we have the resources, the wisdom, and the peace, to make it so for them.
