Brand New and Habituated to the Vast: Durham NC Newborn Photographer
Y’all. I am a newborn person. They are smooshy and wise, milky and eternal. They are vast, and a little bit scary in their depth. “Habituated to the vast”— that’s how Samuel Taylor Coleridge described his own mind, and it’s also how I see newborns. When they are teeny like Miss SP here, they seem so untethered to the world still— and so connected to the unnameable— but also so full of knowing. In her parents’ arms, SP experiences nothing as surprise, because everything is a surprise. I wonder if any of these pictures will allow older SP to call back that sensation of connection to the universe in years to come, even for a moment. I hope so. I hope she feels the miracle of it— that brief time when she knew everything.
